day 153

Bumthang was getting ready for a festival. Unfortunately, it started the same day we were leaving :( I guess we should come back again to see it :)

day 152

Even though I'm kind of getting used to see monkeys in every park in Singapore, it was still exciting when we saw them during our car trip in Bhutan.

day 151

Coca-cola everywhere, even in a place of worship as a plant pot :)

day 150

Chilli is a very important ingredient in Bhutanese food. Any place is good to get them dried, although they was mostly on the roofs.

day 149

Not sure why they have this kind of rooms full of candles.

day 148

One of the many white flags placed for a dead person. There is always a big group of them together.

day 147

Some monk left part of his dress forgotten, hehe!
We bought a similar carpet for less that $20! great deal, right?

day 146

Back garden of a monastery in Bumthang, so peaceful!

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

day 145

Since I went to the dog shelter today, as any Wednesday, I chose I dog picture form Bhutan. There are many dogs on the streets. The government is trying to solve this problem, but they will have a lot of work! I wouldn't mind to move there and help in the new shelter :)

day 144

This monastery, on the road from Paro to Thimpu, was not in our tour, since it's not a tourist place, and it is private and run by two couples. But when we were nearby, Thinley told us a little bit about it, and we decided to stop to see it.
It was one of our favorites, and I liked specially the bridge, with all the flags at both sides. And I crossed it!! Although this one would be very stable compare with another we would cross a few days later in Bumthang.

day 143

I know, I'm breaking my own rules, since this picture is from Bhutan, and we are no longer there... But we took so many pictures we like.... and we are still thinking about the trip, that should count :) So, except for the days I take good pictures here, I'll post a picture of Bhutan until the end of the month.
I hope you don't mind! And it is still one picture per day :)

day 142

Unfortunately, the trip couldn't last forever, and it was time to come back to Singapore :(

Saturday, October 19, 2013

day 141

On our last day in Bhutan we went to the Tiger Nest Monastery, probably the most famous one. And it wasn't disappointing. The hiking was easier than the one we made two days earlier in Bhumtang, and of course we meet other tourists, but it wasn't crowded.

day 140

We played archery, Bhutan's national sport! Well, I tried, but wasn't able to do it, but Fulvio and Chao had a great time. And our driver and guide showed us how good they are in this sport, amazing!!! These two arrows were launched by the driver with his own professional bow (and that required a lot of strength!), and one of them might still be there, since got too deeply into the wood, hehe!

Actually, we played archery the day before... but we spent the whole day traveling back to Paro, and the only pictures we have of this day are of the Queen! To be more precise, the younger wife of the 4th King of Bhutan (the one in the power now is the 5th) She owns the hotel we were staying in, and because they attended a wedding the day before in the area, she and her parents spent the night in the hotel. We met them when they were leaving back to Paro too. She was really really nice, and greeted all the tourist that were waiting to see her, and agreed to be taken some pictures.

day 139

Bumthang is a beautiful place. We asked our guide to take us for hiking, and she and our driver took us to a very nice place. We got to a monastery quite high in a mountain, and without more tourist, and there were only 2 or 3 monks.
On our way back, we meet 3 children playing with boards on the hill :)

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

day 138

Bhutanese people must a special kind of scarf when they enter a Dzong (administrative and religious building). Ladies wear something like what our guide wears in her left arm in this picture. Men wear a different one.

Tuesday, October 15, 2013

day 137

On our 4th day, we traveled from Punaka to Trongsa and had to spend some hours in the car, but was fun anyway thanks to Thinley, our guide, and Kesang, our driver :) One of the stops was at a small monastery, and since the monks were in a big tent instead of inside the altar room or choeshum, we could take some pictures of them during their practice (pictures are not allowed in the choeshum)

Monday, October 14, 2013

day 136

The 108 Stupas built in 2003 in honor of His Majesty the 4th King by Her Majesty the Mother Queen, after their victory in the war.
I thought they were older, I guess it is because they were built in the same old style.

Sunday, October 13, 2013

day 135

A woman praying during a religious practice at Memorial Stupa in Thimpu. There were a lot of people walking around the Stupa (clockwise), while many others sit around, like this woman, praying with their owns praying wheels and prayer beads.

day 134

I finally chose this photo of our first day in Bhutan, where some Bhutanese girls, wearing their traditional dress (I loved it!), are spinning small praying wheels. The praying wheels must spin clock-wise, as well as you must go around building and religious monument clock-wise.
This is at the Kichu Ihakhang monastery (in Paro), the first one we visited. It was very interesting, since there were many monks and villagers praying together.

day 133

I have again a lot of delay on my posts... but we have been on a trip to Bhutan for 10 days! And we have so many pictures that it's going to be really difficult to choose only one per day.

We left on Friday night, and had to spend the night at the airport in Bangkok, since the it is one of the few places where you can take a flight to Paro. Fulvio took this picture while waiting at the airport.

First thing about going to Bhutan: The landing in Paro was the BEST LANDING EVER!!!! The captain said to the passengers who went to Paro for the first time: "don't panic". The airport is in a valley, and the plane had to go really close to the mountains, it was amazing! And I was seated next to the window, so I could see it very well (If you ever go, choose a window on the left side)

day 131

I had to go to the Nikon service again :( Looks like this time the camera it is clean. And since I already new the way, went for a walk to Chinatown and Clark Quay before my book club meeting (my first one!)
Some decoration at the Buddhist temple.

Tuesday, October 8, 2013

day 130

I went to the dog shelter this morning, but dogs were not in the mood for pictures.... maybe because it was so hot! So I had to choose a something more motionless for today's photo.

Sunday, October 6, 2013

day 128

Nice decoration details in this streetlight. It's in one of the bridges of Clarke Quay.

Saturday, October 5, 2013

day 127

Buddhist monks during some practice at the Chinatown's temple. I don't know what kind of celebration and how it called :(....

Thursday, October 3, 2013

day 125

I had to go to the Nikon service to get my camera clean, and I started walking and ended in Chinatown. Something I like of Singapore is the mix of cultures. This is a Hindu temple with some Mid-Autumn decoration (since it is in Chinatown). Pretty close in the same street there is also a mosque and, of course, a Buddhist temple.

day 124

I know, one more picture of the Marina Bay, and I already have one at night.... but I like this one so much! with all the ships behind.
This afternoon I went with some from of the AWA Photography group for a River walk, and finished it in the Altitude terrace, in one of the Raffles Place buildings. It was very nice to take a look of Singapore from a 63 floor.
